Challenge Accepted: We’re Gonna Get a Mech Brawl!
|Here’s a Quick Timeline:
- June 30, 2015: American Robot enthusiasts challenge the Japanese company Suidobashi Heavy Industry to a robot competition.
- July 5, 2015: The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team beat Japan 5-2 to win the World Cup.
- July 7, 2015: Suidobashi Heavy Industry accepts the challenge.
- ??????, 2016: Battle of the Millenium Begins!
Ok the Women’s World Cup probably didn’t influence this challenge but perhaps future historians will try to throw that in there anyway.  So yeah, back on July 1, I read an article on Popular Science’s website where Megabots sought an international exhibition. This was just a couple of weeks after I had first stumbled onto Kurata’s human-piloted mech.  Then today I see that Kurata has accepted the challenge.
Kurata, Suidobashi Heavy Industry’s founder is quoted as saying, “If we’re gonna win, I want to punch them to scrap and knock them down to do it.” That means no BBs, no paintbull guns. We’re gonna see ROBOTS WITH SWORDS! While I go take a cold shower, check out the video challenge from Megabots and the response from Suidobashi Heavy Industry:
This probably won’t be the next cold war, especially since both countries love each other, but it should be fun to watch! There is no clear date of when but it will most likely be at least a year from now.
