You Do Realize the Joker and Harley Quinn Aren’t Real, Right?

I’ve known for a while that there’s a bunch of people out there who love Harley Quinn and the Joker.  There’s also people out there who are apparently scolding people who do like them.  Yes, scolding. For everything popular there are haters but this isn’t your typical hater but actual, “shame on you for liking them!” which I find really amusing.

I get it.  I do.  When I heard that soccer moms out there were concerned about their daughters having Harley Quinn as a role model because of how the Joker treats her, I couldn’t help but facepalm.  There was an urge to scream, “How stupid are you?  She’s a serial killer!  That’s not a role model for your child no matter who she happens to be dating!”

Sure, the Joker and Harley Quinn are bad people.  Even reformed Harley is still killing people the last I knew (I’ve only read the first 6 issues of Harley Quinn from the New 52).  Suicide Squad didn’t paint her in a much better picture.  But these are fictional characters.  They aren’t real!  They’ve been written by others to do the things they do.

If people were forming cults to worship Harley and her “Mistah J” then I could see where there might be a problem.  For the most part though I just see people dressing up like them as their costumes are fun and so is the fantasy of being a crazy criminal.  It’s Mad Love.

So if I’m missing something, then please let me know.

The photo used with the article is of Veronica Bochi as Harley Quinn and I’m unsure of who the Joker is.  If anyone knows his name please let me know!  See more of Veronica in Cosplay on Instagram and Facebook.
